Faust is a functional programming language for signal processing and synthesis. A distinctive feature of Faust is that it is not an interpreted but a compiled language. It targets high-performance real-time audio processing applications and plugins. The Faust compiler translates Faust programs into optimized C++ code for a variety of audio standrads : Jack, Alsa, OSS, Ladspa, VST, MaxMSP, Q, PD, SuperCollider, etc.
